CogniaThe Math and Science Academy of Charlotte - TMSA Charlotte is a tuition-free public charter school focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Math (STEAM) in Charlotte, North Carolina. We serve more than 800 students from kindergarten through 12th grade on our two campuses.

We are excited to bring TMSA's first-class and tuition-free STEAM education to Charlotte! Queen City STEM School joined the TMSA family last year as The Math and Science Academy of Charlotte - TMSA Charlotte!

What's Happening?

Exciting News: TMSA Charlotte has been approved to expand in Concord, Cabarrus County

We are thrilled to share a transformative development across the TMSA Public Charter Schools network! The Charter Schools Review Board (CSRB) has officially approved TMSA Charlotte’s relocation and expansion plans, marking a significant step forward in our commitment to delivering exceptional STEAM-focused education and addressing the growing needs of our student community.

What’s Happening?

1. Relocation of the Secondary Campus:

  • The TMSA Charlotte secondary campus will move from 9108 Mallard Creek Road in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, to a new, state-of-the-art facility at 7550 Ruben Linker Road in Concord, Cabarrus County.
  • Facility Highlights:
    • Spans 94,000 square feet on 24 acres.
    • Includes 55 classrooms and labs, a gymnasium, and outdoor sports fields.
    • Will serve students in grades 6-12.

2. Expansion of the Elementary Campus:

  • TMSA Charlotte’s elementary school will expand to a second location at 355 Poplar Crossing Drive NW in Concord, Cabarrus County, while maintaining its current campus at 8701 Mallard Creek Road in Charlotte.
  • New Facility Features:
    • 70,000 square feet on 8.2 acres.
    • Additional classrooms, a gymnasium, and outdoor playfields.

Superintendent Ben Karaduman shared:
“This relocation and expansion signify a new chapter for TMSA Charlotte. By addressing space constraints and enhancing our facilities, we are better equipped to deliver high-quality education and innovative programs to our students.”
Board President Victor Ofori-Boadu added:
“This expansion aligns with TMSA’s strategic vision of creating inclusive, innovative, and high-quality learning environments. We thank the CSRB for their support and our community for their enthusiasm and trust.”
This initiative addresses critical needs, including:

  • Expanded space for advanced electives, extracurricular programs, and enrollment growth.
  • Enhanced STEAM-focused initiatives and extracurricular opportunities to promote student retention and engagement.

Celebrating TMSA’s Achievements

This expansion reflects TMSA’s continued dedication to fostering academic excellence. Highlights from across the district include:

  • “A” performance grades for TMSA Apex and Triangle campuses.
  • Improved “B” performance grade for TMSA Triad in 2023-2024.
  • Steady academic progress and growth at TMSA Charlotte.
